Meet Sheila Taylor, March 2025 Volunteer of the Month. After a lifelong career in the arts and education, Sheila Taylor found her second act at The Plaza Theatre. Since retiring in 2021, Sheila has become a vital part of our community, lending her choreography expertise, on-stage talents, and behind-the-scenes support to numerous productions. Her enthusiasm and passion are a perfect example of the heart and energy that keep The Plaza shining.

How long have you been volunteering at the theatre and what motivated you?

When I heard that the summer musical was going to be “Hello, Dolly”, I knew I wanted to audition. As owner/director of my dance studio as well as director of the Wharton High School TigerStars Drill Team, I never had time to be a part of the productions. But when I retired in 2021, I was able to become a part of The Plaza Family, and I have enjoyed every minute.

What roles/tasks do you typically undertake as volunteer?

My first role was being in the chorus and dance ensemble of “Hello, Dolly.” I have since been choreographer for several of the musicals, as well as in the chorus and in the dance ensemble of the shows. I also volunteer for the concession stand for the plays.

What are your most memorable experiences?

I have loved every experience in each of the shows. I think getting to play Rita in “White Christmas” and being one of Reno’s Angels in “Anything Goes” stand out as special memories. But the best part of every show is getting to be with such special people who join together to make the shows possible. Making new friends and getting to be with old friends makes The Plaza a special place for me.

How has volunteering impacted your life?

Volunteering has filled a void in my life that I had after retiring. I was not used to having free time, and I had always been involved in the arts. Volunteering at The Plaza was the perfect transition for me.

Any advice to someone interested in volunteering?

Give it a try! The opportunities are so varied that everyone can find a place they would enjoy.

Thank you, Sheila, for your passion, creativity, and dedication to The Plaza Theatre. Whether you’re choreographing a show-stopping number, serving at concessions, or lighting up the stage yourself, your presence brings energy, joy, and heart to every production.
