From stepping onto the Plaza stage at just six years old to becoming one of the familiar faces behind the scenes, Roxy has quite literally grown up at the Plaza Theatre. This month, we’re celebrating her years of dedication, the countless hours she’s spent helping our productions shine, and the enthusiasm she continues to bring to our Plaza family.

How long have I been involved at the Plaza Theatre and what motivated me?
I’ve been part of the Plaza family since 2012, when I first stepped onto the stage as a six-year-old. For many years, the stage felt like my second home, but in 2021 I discovered a new passion behind the scenes in the sound booth. It’s been exciting to experience theatre from a completely different perspective and to help bring each production to life in a new way.

What roles/tasks do I typically undertake?
These days, you’ll usually find me in the sound booth! I’ve volunteered as the sound or microphone operator for more than 13 productions, helping ensure every actor can be heard and every performance runs smoothly. While audiences may not always notice the work happening behind the scenes, I love knowing I’m helping create the best possible experience for everyone in the theatre.

Most Memorable Experiences:
It’s hard to pick just one! My favorite memories aren’t tied to a single production or moment—they’re the friendships I’ve made, the people I’ve met, and the countless experiences we’ve shared together over the years. The memories created at the Plaza last a lifetime, and I’m grateful for every one of them.

How has being involved with the Plaza Theatre impacted my life?
Volunteering at the Plaza has been a huge part of my life and has helped shape the person I am today. It has taught me responsibility, teamwork, and confidence while giving me a place where I truly feel like I belong. If you’re thinking about volunteering, I say go for it 100%! You never know where the experience might lead or the friendships you’ll make along the way.

Advice to someone interested in volunteering:
The Plaza community is so much more than a group of people who love theatre – it’s a family. Everyone encourages one another, celebrates successes together, and is always there to lend a helping hand. I’m incredibly grateful to be part of such an amazing community, and I look forward to volunteering at the Plaza for many years to come.

Roxy’s story is a perfect example of what makes community theatre so special. A child who first found a home on our stage is now helping a new generation of performers be heard from behind the sound board.
