This month’s Volunteer Spotlight shines on someone whose heart, energy, and dedication have become woven into the fabric of The Plaza Theatre family. For more than fourteen years, Julie Aaronson has shared her time and talents both on stage and behind the scenes, helping create the magic that audiences experience every season. From unforgettable musical performances to years of leadership and service on the Board of Directors, Julie’s love for The Plaza is evident in everything she does. Her story is a beautiful reminder that volunteering here is about so much more than theater…it’s about community, friendship, and finding a place where you truly belong.

How long have you been volunteering at the theatre and what motivated you?

I have been volunteering for fourteen years and would like to thank Debbi Dimmick for opening the door, motivating me and welcoming me to The Plaza. In 2012, she helped me become a part of The Sound of Music (my favorite childhood show) and from then on, I have been spellbound by all the incredible people and magical things happening at The Plaza.

What roles or tasks do you typically undertake as a volunteer?

I have served on the Plaza Board of Directors for seven years and have been the treasurer for five years. After The Sound of Music, I have been in the chorus and dance ensemble for other musicals. Currently, my husband and I enjoy volunteering in the concession stand for the shows and getting the opportunity to see and visit with so many wonderful people as they enter the theater.

What are your most memorable experiences?

Of course, I loved being in the chorus for The Sound of Music and also being in Mamma Mia (my favorite adult show). I will forever be grateful to have been a part of both of these musicals. I have to say my most memorable experiences were playing Rhoda in White Christmas and Chastity (one of Reno’s angels) in Anything Goes. After each show I always say……that one was MY FAVORITE!!

How has volunteering impacted your life?

Volunteering at The Plaza has provided the chance for me to meet and connect with so many amazing, talented and generous people that have truly touched my life. Being a volunteer at the theater has helped me do things I never thought were possible and provide memories that will last a lifetime!

Advice to someone interested in volunteering:

DO IT…..you will come to the theater as a volunteer, but you will leave being a part of The Plaza Family and knowing you have made an impact on the shining star in our community. There is no place like The Plaza, come and be a part of the magic!
