PLAZA THEATRE ANNOUNCES SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS FOR 2024
The Plaza Theatre proudly announces Rodrigo Gutierrez and Lillian Montalvo as the recipients of the 2024 Plaza Theatre Scholarship in memory of Mrs. Jeanene D. Merka. These scholarships, each valued at $500, aim to support and encourage higher education in theatre and performing arts, reflecting the Plaza Theatre’s commitment to nurturing local talent.
Rodrigo Gutierrez, a standout graduate of Bridgeland High School, has demonstrated exceptional leadership and performance skills during his time in the school’s theatre program. Described as a natural motivator and dedicated performer by his mentors, Rodrigo’s passion for theatre is evident in his roles both on and off the stage. His commitment to the arts extends to his academic pursuits at Wharton County Junior College, where he plans to obtain his Associate of Fine Arts before transferring to a university for a Bachelor’s degree. Rodrigo’s journey is fueled by a desire to teach theatre and make a positive impact on the community through his artistic endeavors.
Lillian Montalvo, hailing from Cypress, TX, has left an indelible mark on the Bridgeland High School theatre community through her outstanding talent and unwavering dedication. As a student leader and performer, Lillian has consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic and exceptional character. Her commitment to theatre extends beyond performances, as she actively contributes to community service initiatives and special performances. Lillian’s theatrical journey will continue at Texas State University, where she plans to pursue her passion for musical theatre.
