WHARTON, TX — The Plaza Theatre is pleased to announce the opening weekend of Seussical JR. performed by its youngest Litefooters, ranging in ages 6-12, and directed by Hailey Roberson from June 20th through 23rd, 2024. The performances featuring teen actors aged 13-17, directed by Camille Mund, are scheduled from June 27th through 30th.

The Litefooters, named in honor of Wharton-born, Pulitzer- and Academy Award-winning playwright Horton Foote, have spent the beginning of their summer refining their stagecraft skills and theatrical discipline. Now, they’re ready to bring their talent to the stage in a whimsical, colorful show presented by Roberson Air Conditioning.

Seussical JR. is a fantastical musical extravaganza that brings to life all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters in a heartwarming story of friendship, loyalty, and love. Horton the Elephant discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, and he must protect them from a world of naysayers and dangers. Along the way, he meets Gertrude McFuzz, a bird who helps him on his journey. Seussical Jr. is a fun and exciting show for the whole family, and it teaches us the importance of being kind, caring, and accepting of others.

Performances of Seussical JR. will run Thursdays & Fridays at 7:30 pm and Saturdays & Sundays at 2:30pm. The magic of live performance doesn’t end with Seussical JR. The Plaza Theatre is excited to announce its upcoming summer musical, Meredith Willson’s The Music Man, presented by the Brandon and Rachel Cutrer Family. The show, directed by Janice McDonald, is set to delight audiences from August 2nd-18th, 2024.

The Music Man is a classic American musical that tells the story of Harold Hill, a traveling con man who poses as a bandleader in order to swindle the people of River City, Iowa. However, Hill soon finds himself falling in love with Marian Paroo, the town librarian, and begins to have second thoughts about his scheme. With the help of Marian and the townspeople, Hill learns the true meaning of community and music.

The Music Man is a heartwarming and funny musical that features some of the most memorable songs in theater history, including “76 Trombones,” “Ya Got Trouble,” and “Till There Was You.” It is a show that will leave you feeling uplifted and inspired.

In keeping with the Plaza Theatre’s commitment to community engagement and presenting quality theatre, The Music Man is set to be another wonderful addition to its growing archive of performances.
